What is Cubase and what is it for

I recently upgraded to Reason 7 & updated my tracking piano from an old Yamaha P90 to my new Fender amp. When recording tracking in REASON, you can pull up a detailed recording window (as explained on the video) and the mic is hot enough for the instrument – which i noticed on my Fender amp. But then when I switch to cubase for editing I can’t select the exact mic like I could in reason. I can in Cubase, but how can I have audio I recorded in reason, and yet have a notation track in cubase?

Hello, I’m using cubase for about 4 years now and I’m really amazed at the functionality. But you are right. There are some things missing that should’ve been put in. As far as editing and programming the drum machine, I use my Pro Tools for that. Same thing about using Reason for electric/guitar, bass, and vocals. I have Reason for audio editing and cubase for track information.

You can view the Reason 5 tutorial if you want to learn about the Edit Track window – an invaluable feature if you want to arrange and prepare your tracks. AFAIK, most DAWs (reason, cubase, FL Studio) do this. However it is not part of the Cubase workflow.

I have always liked Cubase because it is so intuitive to use. Many of the features from the Reason user’s guide, are already in the Cubase user’s guide. Plus, I can run the Cubase Cracked EZ Inspector and have a live view of my audio tracks without leaving Reason (e.g. bring up the audio track audio and mute/unmute it). With Reason I need to open the audio tracks to view their audio meters. It really depends on what you want to accomplish on a day to day basis.
